E1: My Physical Activity Framework

Movement - Exercise - Train

As we all know, we are facing an inactivity crisis in modern society today. One of my underlying motives in my coaching career is helping people overcome this obstacle.

We’ve seen strategies implemented from making training more social and fun to creating a more practical way to track physical activity with step count. Both of these have resulted in getting people more active.

But I’ve also seen these come with confusion of either “Am I doing the right thing in comparison to what I really want to achieve,” to “Is this actually enough to make myself better.”

In an effort to try and bridge these gaps, I created this MET Framework, which helps categorize our overall daily physical activity

Movement - physical tasks that have no intention of increasing physical health or performance and are only intended to complete that task

Exercise - physical activity that results in improving or maintaining physical health but not tracking outcomes or building progressions

Train - physical activity and exercise with the intention to target physical health improvements or accomplish a physical goal where a program is followed and built with progressions and tracking outcomes

In this episode of the Culture Athletics Podcast, I dive into what each of these three categories means, provide examples and strategies to implement them and explain the guidelines that will help you create a physical activity calendar for yourself.

Enjoy!
